What Is New
- New Shape: It is a folding phone with an inner screen that is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
- Reimagined Software: iOS now moves controls to the side and adapts when the phone is bent into different angles.
- Camera Setup: It has a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, but no dedicated telephoto zoom lens.
- eSIM Only: It drops the physical SIM card slot globally to save space and hold more battery.
Apple has finally entered the foldable-phone world.
The new iPhone Duo is not just another iPhone with a slightly better camera or a faster processor. It has a completely different shape.
When you open it, you get a large 7.6-inch folding display.
When you close it, you have a more compact 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the Duo is its first foldable iPhone and is designed to provide a larger screen while remaining pocketable when closed.
And for someone who has used an iPhone for many years, the first question may be:
“Is this going to be difficult to use?”
The good news is that many familiar iPhone ideas are still there.
A Bigger Screen When You Need It
Imagine reading an email and opening the phone to a much larger screen.
Or looking at family photographs.
Or reading a website without constantly zooming in.
Or having multiple things visible while working with your phone.
That is where the Duo becomes interesting.
Apple says the inner display measures 7.6 inches and includes ProMotion and an always-on display.
You Can Still Use It Closed
You don’t have to unfold the phone every time.
The outer 5.4-inch display is designed for more compact everyday use.
You can check information, interact with your phone, and then open it when you want the larger screen.
Cameras Have Also Been Updated
The Duo includes a 48MP dual Fusion camera system, along with features such as Smart Take and Duo Preview. Apple also lists Dolby Vision recording up to 4K at 120 fps.
For everyday users, however, the important question isn’t always how many megapixels a camera has.
It’s:
“Can I take good pictures of my family easily?”
That’s what matters.
A Lot of Storage
Apple lists the iPhone Duo in capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB.
That can be useful for people who keep many photographs and videos on their phone.
But more storage doesn’t replace a good backup strategy.
Your phone can be lost, damaged, or replaced.
Your important photographs should not exist in only one place.
Apple Intelligence and Siri AI
Apple also lists Apple Intelligence and Siri AI among the Duo’s features.
Some people will love these features.
Others may simply want their phone to make calls, send messages, take photographs, and check email.
And that’s perfectly fine.
You don’t have to use every new feature.
Is iPhone Duo Right for Everyone?
Not necessarily.
If you mainly make calls, send messages, and occasionally check email, a traditional iPhone may already do everything you need.
But if you want a larger screen without carrying a separate tablet, the Duo may be appealing.
What About Moving Everything From Your Old iPhone?
This is probably the question we expect many people to ask.
“Will my contacts, photographs, applications, and other information move to my new iPhone?”
Apple supports several ways to transfer information, including Quick Start, iCloud backup, and computer backups.
The safest approach is to prepare your old iPhone before you begin.
Make sure you know your Apple Account password.
Make sure your old phone has a recent backup.
Keep the old phone available until you’ve checked the new phone.
And don’t erase your old phone simply because the new one appears to be working.
Need a Human to Help Set Up Your New iPhone?
Buying a new phone is exciting.
Setting it up can be another story.
If the transfer screen is confusing, your passwords aren’t working, or you’re unsure whether your photographs and contacts moved correctly, you don’t have to figure everything out alone.
